ADL is seeking a new board member, whose 3-year term will start in January 2024.
The primary responsibilities of the Library Board are to establish and approve a budget, oversee library expenditures, develop library policies and appoint a director.
The Library Board is responsible for:
- Controlling the expenditure of all monies collected to the credit of the Library Fund (millage)
- Establishing and approving an annual budget
- Supervision, care, and custody of of any grounds, rooms, or buildings constructed, leased or set apart for library services
- Developing and implementing policies that govern library service
- Working with library administration in planning and goal setting for the library
- Appointing a suitable Library Director and fixing his/her compensation; the Board has the power to remove such an appointee
- Advocating for the library in the community
- Attending and participating in all board meetings
- Being informed about all phases of the library's operation
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age and reside within the City of Adrian
- Possess a true sense of the library's importance to the economic, social and educational life of the community
- Have an appreciation for the library and desire to provide the best possible services for the community
Accountable to: the taxpayers and the people serviced by the Adrian District Library
The Adrian District Library Board meets monthly on the third Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. in the Community Room on the lower level of the library. The Board does not generally meet in July or December.
